SWNA scholarship recipients: Show and Tell Virtual New Year Get-Together
Come and share something about yourself that you would like others to know about! That’s right, here’s an opportunity for you to SHOW us an object (for instance, think of a basketball or object used in another hobby, a musical instrument, a photograph, a toy, an award or trophy) and TELL us about the object’s significance to your life. Or mementos that carried you through 2020 and you would save to tell your story.
Monique Chambers, SWNA Scholarship recipient from 2018-2020 has cast, directed and video edited a Christmas play with the support of BREAD-FOR-THE-SOUL, SWNA and Westminster Presbyterian Church. In 2018, her scholarship was funded by Friends of Southwest DC.
At the August SWNA Scholarship Awards Program, one of the recipients said it would be nice to have caring adults checking in with them while they are at college.
Tutors are needed to check in (remotely) with Amidon-Bowen Elementary School students twice a week to encourage them to attend virtual classes and do their homework.
At the August 2 SWNA Scholarship event, Westminster Presbyterian Church (WPC) Pastor Ruth Hamilton heard that scholarship recipient Aaliyah Wilkinson had hopes of doing event planning.
The Stadium District College Fund is available each fall to teens and young adults (age 12-24) who reside in Southwest Washington, DC Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) Single Member District (SMD) 6D06, demonstrate financial need, and have a specific use for the funds that relates to education, training, sports, arts, or activities to further their skill or job training.
On Sunday, Aug. 2, the Southwest Neighborhood Assembly Education and Scholarship Task Force (SWNA ESTF) held its 46th Annual Scholarship Awards Program and awarded a record-setting $40,500 in scholarships.
