It's The Gift that Counts

Monique Chambers, SWNA Scholarship recipient from 2018-2020 has cast, directed and video edited a Christmas play with the support of BREAD-FOR-THE-SOUL, SWNA and Westminster Presbyterian Church. In 2018, her scholarship was funded by Friends of Southwest DC.

The play, “It’s the Gift That Counts,” written by David W. Christine, follows Edmond, a young man, who is disappointed because he did not receive a gift from his parents on Christmas morning. Soon a stranger appears and has Edmond repeat Christmas morning until he realizes the real meaning of Christmas. Monique cast two actors who were fellow students with her at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia as well as several of her friends and family.

Monique finished her senior year at the University a semester early and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Directing, Playwriting and Production and a minor in Art Therapy. She plans to continue on to graduate school where she will focus on child psychology, using her background in theater as therapy. Monique enjoyed working with such a talented group of individuals and is so thankful for the support of the Southwest Community.
